(Nasdaq: SUNW) today announces its Sun(TM) Crypto Accelerator 1000 Board (SCA1000) delivering over 4300 new Secure Socket Layer (SSL) sessions per second when used with the Sun Fire(TM) 6800 and the iPlanet (TM) Web Server, a record performance level surpassing any other single secure web server solution reported to date. A dedicated accelerator board designed to offload session creation of an SSL transaction from the system's processor, the SCA1000 provides fast, reliable, secure connections. With SSL as the primary method of encryption used in e-commerce applications such as Web servers, acceleration of the session creation component has become even more critical. The SCA1000 provides Sun customers the capacity for fast, secure e-commerce transactions, reducing the number of dropped sessions and ultimately improving user's on-line experience. The SCA1000 supports existing Sun server platforms using the Solaris(TM) 8 Operating Environment. The co-processor solution offloads the SSL functions from a server's CPU, providing high performance SSL session creation. The SCA1000 is optimized for Sun servers running either the iPlanet or Apache Web server software. The SCA1000 supports up to 2048-bit RSA encryption. The board handles all major cryptographic functions including RSA, DSA, DES, and 3DES. The board processes SSL transactions using the PKSC11 interface for the iPlanet Web Server (v4.1SP9 and 6.0SP1). The Apache Web Server (v1.3.12) is supported using a modified version of OpenSSL v0.9.6b*. Another key feature of SCA1000 is the acceleration of bulk data encryption.
