Adaptive Computing’s Moab Brings Intelligent Automation to the New Amazon EC2 Cluster Compute Instance for HPC Customers

Adaptive Computing has announced that its leading Moab :unified automation intelligence technology is compatible with Cluster Compute Instances for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), a new offering for High Performance Computing (HPC) in the cloud. Adaptive Computing customers can now leverage Amazon's EC2 Cluster Compute Instances capabilities to augment existing resources while maintaining the intelligent, policy-driven automation that Moab successfully delivers for the world’s largest cloud and HPC environments.

After extensive testing, Adaptive Computing confirmed that the new Amazon Cluster Compute Instances are robust, reliable and capable of delivering the compute power, bandwidth and low latency required by HPC class applications. Moab technology ensures that cloud resources can be utilized with up to ninety-nine percent efficiency and, when combined with Amazon’s EC2 Cluster Compute Instance environment, creates a dynamic and intelligent environment that offers excellent value and return on investment in HPC cloud resources.

“Our customers are excited about the potential of cloud computing but many have been disappointed by the lack of true HPC class capability in the public cloud until now. Amazon's new Cluster Compute Instances changes that landscape,” said Michael Jackson, president of Adaptive Computing. “Our tests have shown the combined Moab and Amazon EC2 Cluster Compute Instance environment to be the right mix of performance, capability and price to deliver true HPC cloud services to both existing customers and a whole new class of HPC users.”

“We’re pleased Adaptive Computing customers can now reap the benefits of the cloud – including pay-as-you-go pricing, the ability to add or shed resources on-demand and the opportunity to focus on business-differentiating programs – without sacrificing operational performance, reliability or security,” said Deepak Singh, business development manager, Amazon Web Services. “We’re excited to see what customers can achieve with Cluster Compute Instances for Amazon EC2 along with familiar management tools provided by Adaptive Computing.”

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides you with complete control of your computing resources and lets you run on Amazon’s proven computing environment. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for capacity that you actually use. Amazon EC2 provides developers the tools to build failure resilient applications and isolate themselves from common failure scenarios.
