Zettaset granted patent for split brain resistant fail-over in high availability Hadoop clusters
Zettaset Orchestrator customers increase comprehensive automatic fail-over for all Hadoop services, current and future, as well as more reliability and performance
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted Zettaset a new patent for “split brain resistant fail-over in high availability Hadoop clusters”; patent number 8,595,546; issued on November 26, 2013.
Zettaset’s newly patented technology provides a future-proof approach to high-availability and ensures that automatic failover is applied to all services running in a Hadoop cluster, as well as any new Hadoop services that may be introduced in the future. Zettaset’s high-availability technology has been included as a core component of the Orchestrator enterprise software suite for Hadoop management and security since its initial release over two years ago.
Open source distributions limit high-availability to a small sub-set of Hadoop services and create a hurdle for security and reliability requirements in the enterprise. Zettaset Orchestrator is an enterprise software application that complements open-source products to help them meet enterprise requirements. Orchestrator is transparent to, and compatible with, the leading branded Hadoop distributions. As the ultimate Hadoop application, Orchestrator not only provides the most comprehensive security solution for Hadoop, but now boosts Hadoop availability and reliability.
Orchestrator’s patented high-availability and comprehensive security also extends into Business Intelligence and analytics applications via Orchestrator’s recently-announced BI Connector. Synchronous replication between nodes protects analytics applications and users by eliminating disruptive downtime caused by Hadoop service failures, regardless of the Hadoop distribution being deployed.
Benefits to Enterprise Hadoop users include:
- Delivers superior availability and reliability for the combined business intelligence/analytics and Hadoop ecosystem
- Eliminates ripple-effect disruption to upstream users caused by Hadoop service-related failures and interruptions
- Enhances performance and productivity for analytics applications and users that are accessing Hadoop databases
- Improves Hadoop uptime, and provides more consistent and predictable performance
- Reduces burden on IT and eliminates subsequent need for professional services
“Our mission at Zettaset is to accelerate the adoption of Apache open-source Hadoop and help enterprise customers to safely and confidently move from pilot to production, no matter which distribution is being used. Our newly-patented, high-availability technology represents a major breakthrough for enterprise organizations that require and expect rock-solid dependability from their Hadoop clusters, and complements the existing open-source ecosystem,” said Jim Vogt, president and CEO of Zettaset. “This unique capability from Zettaset, along with the most comprehensive security available for Hadoop environments, makes Hadoop truly compelling to the enterprise.”
Key Features of Zettaset’s Patented High-Availability Technology
- Zettaset Orchestrator high-availability is future-proof, and is designed to cover any existing Hadoop service as well as any new services which may be introduced in the future
- Protects critical security functions, such as encryption key management servers, role-based access control, and Kerberos, as well as Hive metastore, NameNode, JobTracker, Oozie, web-based user interface, and any other Hadoop service that is running in a cluster
- Can be applied to Hadoop as well as other No-SQL database technologies
- Supports both stateful and stateless service modes, ensuring that data is available even when a Hadoop cluster is down
