Allinea DDT now works seamlessly with Intel Message Checker

Allinea DDT 2.3 Debugging Tool Enhanced to Increase Developer Productivity by Identifying and Fixing Hard-to-Detect MPI errors. Allinea Software, a leading provider of innovative products for large-scale scalar and parallel high performance computing applications, today announced that its powerful DDT 2.3 debugger now provides integrated support for Intel Message Checker, a full-feature MPI verification tool and a component of the Intel Trace Analyzer and Collector product and Intel Cluster Toolkit Compiler Edition. DDT 2.3 automatically loads and configures Intel Message Checker into a job, and integrates the display of all errors within its innovative interface. This enables developers to easily spot the cause of previously hard-to-detect MPI errors and repair them immediately. The integrated capability greatly reduces the time and effort required to correctness check a program with a large numbers of simultaneous MPI processes and threads. “It is so much easier, and faster, to debug an automatically-detected MPI problem if you can be inside a real debugger when the problem occurs,“ said Dr. David Lecomber, CTO of Allinea Software. “By incorporating Intel Message Checker into DDT 2.3, it will enable programmers to find and fix issues earlier in the debugging process, making their jobs simpler and making them more efficient.” "The fact that Allinea's DDT 2.3 debugger can automatically incorporate the Intel Message Checker tool will enable programmers to more easily find and fix several classes of errors in MPI programs—such as potential deadlocks, hang-ups and race conditions—for both point-to-point and collective operations,” says Don Gunning, marketing manager, Cluster Software and Technologies, Intel. “Further, collaboratively decreasing the time needed to improve the quality of complex MPI programs is a goal of the Intel cluster tools team."
