Arista Networks names Jayshree Ullal president, Andreas Bechtolsheim chairman

Arista Networks, formerly known as Arastra and leading vendor of high-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Cloud Networking Solutions, today announced the appointment of Jayshree Ullal as President and Chief Executive Officer. In addition, it named Andreas Bechtolsheim Chairman and Chief Development Officer. Jayshree Ullal was previously Senior Vice President of Cisco Systems, responsible for the $10B Datacenter, Switching and Services Group. A 25-year industry veteran, Ullal was named one of the "50 Most Powerful People" in 2005 by Network World and was nominated one of the 20 most powerful "Women to Watch in 2001" by Newsweek. Andreas Bechtolsheim, a well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneur, was a Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems and a Senior Vice President and Chief Architect for the Systems Group at Sun. From 1996 to 2003, Andy was Vice President and General Manager of the Gigabit Systems Business Unit at Cisco Systems. "The new era of cloud computing requires fundamental improvements in capacity, latency, and cost-performance over existing enterprise network solutions," said Bechtolsheim. "Arista is developing highly scalable, reliable and cost-effective Cloud Networking solutions for large-scale web and enterprise datacenters to address these requirements." "I am delighted to join Arista. The combination of an outstanding team, innovative hardware and software technology and the Cloud Networking vision drew me to this company. I look forward to creating a unique focus for our strategic customers, partners and channels," said Ullal. Arista has been shipping a portfolio of 10 Gigabit Ethernet products since May 2008 to customers in several vertical markets, including financial markets, high-performance computing, public sector, manufacturing, Internet data centers, healthcare, and media/entertainment.
