SAIC Software Program Named One of the Defense Department's Five Best

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) today announced that its OneSAF Objective System (OOS) program, a simulation application for Semi-Automated Forces, has been selected as one of the U.S. Department of Defense's Top 5 Software Projects by a distinguished panel of government and industry judges. This is the second year in a row that SAIC has been recognized with this award, winning last year for its prime contractor performance on the OneSAF Testbed Baseline (OTB) program. SAIC is the architecture and integration contractor for OOS, which is managed by the Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in Orlando, Fla. The annual award is jointly sponsored by the Director of the Acquisition Resources and Analysis Office of the Undersecretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics), and CrossTalk, the Journal of Defense Software Engineering. SAIC was presented with the award at the annual Software Technology Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Criteria used by the Air Force's Software Technology Support Center for selecting the 14 finalists from over 70 nominations included customer value, performance and technical value. The panel of judges made the final selection of the Top 5 programs. "OneSAF's success is due to its unique teaming structure, the talent of the corporate and government team members, and an integrated working facility where the government and industry partners work to achieve the OneSAF program goals," said LTC John R. "Buck" Surdu, Army product manager, OneSAF for PEO STRI. "I have seen first hand what well-trained people can accomplish by the disciplined application of mature technical and managerial processes and procedures." "We are honored to have been recognized two years in a row for having one of the top five software programs in the entire Defense Department," said Beverly J. Kitaoka, senior vice president and general manager of SAIC's Technology and Simulation Solutions Business Unit. "The SAIC employee owners on our OneSAF team work hand-in-glove with our government customers at PEO STRI building the software application that will serve not only trainers, but also analysts and researchers as well, and this award is powerful evidence of the strength of our working relationship with the Army." SAIC is the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States, providing information technology, systems integration and eSolutions to commercial and government customers. SAIC engineers and scientists work to solve complex technical problems in national security, homeland defense, energy, the environment, telecommunications, health care and transportation. With annual revenues of $6.7 billion, SAIC and its subsidiaries, including Telcordia Technologies, have more than 43,000 employees at offices in more than 150 cities worldwide.
