CCT to host Tinsley Oden for Guest Lecture

The LSU Center for Computation & Technology, or CCT, will feature Tinsley Oden, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at University of Texas, in a guest lecture. Oden, who is a Louisiana native and received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from LSU, will be CCT’s first “Frontiers of Scientific Computing” lecture for the Fall 2007 semester. He will lecture at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in room A101 in the Life Sciences Building Annex. In his guest lecture, Oden will discuss “Adaptive Multiscale Modeling Of Large-Scale Molecular Systems,” which is one of his research specialty areas and involves looking at methods to correct modeling and computational errors so researchers can produce more accurate results. This particular lecture will focus on reducing modeling errors when looking at molecular science problems. Oden is a member of several international scientific organizations, including the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and has published extensively in numerous science and engineering-related journals. Oden received a Presidential Citation for his work at University of Texas. CCT will host a reception at 4 p.m. following Oden’s lecture. The event is free and open to the public. For more information on Oden’s lecture, please visit www.cct.lsu.edu or call CCT Manager of Public Relations Kristen Sunde at 225-578-3469.
