SuperMicro to Unveil 1U Itanium 2 Server Solutions at Fall IDF

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- SuperMicro, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of server solutions and motherboards, announced the debut of its Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 solutions at the Fall Intel Developer Forum (Sept. 16-18) and then in Asia at the Taipei Computex tradeshow (Sept. 22-26). At these shows, SuperMicro will unveil the world's first 1U Itanium 2 platform to meet the ever-growing demands of the high-end server segment. The products unveiled will include the most sophisticated 1U Itanium 2 serverboard in a standard form factor: the SUPER i2DMR-8G2, and the equally impressive SC813S-500 chassis, specially optimized for Itanium 2-based solutions. The core of the SUPER i2DMR-8G2 is the new Intel(R) E8870 chipset. With its revolutionary 128-bit system bus architecture specifically designed to meet the needs of high-end 2-way and 4-way server platforms, the i2DMR-8G2 combines unparalleled performance and scalability with unprecedented error detection, correction and containment. How can a mission-critical server system perform without efficient cooling and optimized setup? Housing the i2DMR-8G2 is SuperMicro's flagship 500-watt SC813S-500 1U chassis. To achieve maximum system availability and stability, the i2DMR-8G2 has undergone the most rigorous testing under a proprietary thermal scheme specially designed by SuperMicro. Moreover, it is still compact enough to fit in a 1U form factor. Four hot-swappable hard drive bays are standard for either SCSI or SATA. In addition to the 1U, SuperMicro is also going to release Itanium 2-based 2U, 3U, and 4U server products, to give customers greater choice and flexibility. In conjunction with Intel's new release of low-cost Itanium 2 processors with 1.5MB L3 cache, SuperMicro commits to bring cost-effective Itanium 2 server solutions to its customers. Placing Itanium 2-based serverboards such as the i2DMR-8G2 in volume production, Supermicro enables those customers who were previously unable to obtain advanced systems due to the high cost to acquire the best Itanium 2 solutions in the world today. SuperMicro President and CEO Charles Liang stated that SuperMicro's Itanium 2-based platform can power virtually all aspects of server applications, from stand-alone, all-purpose server appliances to super cluster server systems in a HPC environment. "Our Itanium platform is designed to meet the needs of the most computation-intensive environments while enabling systems to be delivered at lower cost and with greater platform versatility," said Liang. "SuperMicro's position as a leading supplier of high-end server platforms will be further strengthened with its Itanium 2-based system offerings." On a final note, SuperMicro will also demonstrate its new 1U and 3U NAS hardware platforms in these shows. Both 1U SC813 and 3U SC933 NAS/server chassis will begin shipping in volume in this month. The versatile storage hardware platforms can accommodate up to 1 Terabyte in a 1U and 3.75 Terabytes in a 3U, making it ideal for extreme data-intensive applications.
