Software Solutions to Spur Speed By the Seashore

PLANO, Texas -- Attention, 2007 America's Cup finish line: product lifecycle management (PLM) software from EDS is helping a world-class design team attempt to steer its craft toward you faster than ever before. EDS today announced K-Challenge, the French team competing in the 2007 America's Cup race, will use EDS PLM software solutions to design and develop its watercraft to meet its aggressive competitive goals. The 2007 America's Cup is scheduled for the summer of 2007 in southern Europe. The prestigious international team will use EDS' NX suite of computer- aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) solutions for product definition, performance simulation and digital manufacturing. The NX suite includes two of the world's most advanced CAD/CAM/CAE offerings, Unigraphics(R) NX and I-deas(R) NX Series. The K-Challenge team, considered to be the most advanced European challenger in the 2007 race, is managed by Dawn Riley, winner of the 1992 America's Cup as a member of America3 and the first American to have raced on three America's Cup and two Whitbread Round-the-World sailing teams. "I am very excited about the team we have built for K-Challenge and we consider EDS an important part of that team," said Riley. "With today's strict design rules for America's Cup, speed and innovation are two of the most important aspects of boat design and development. We believe the PLM tools from EDS give us a competitive edge. Our talented design team can use EDS' NX suite of tools to quickly evaluate several different alternatives and determine which will give us the best combination of speed, strength and weight without building expensive and time-consuming physical models." NX Offerings EDS' Unigraphics NX and I-deas NX Series are used globally by a wide range of manufacturers to develop some of the world's most sophisticated and innovative products. On June 5, 2003 EDS announced it would expand its NX offerings with the delivery of NX Nastran, the world's leading digital engineering simulation software. "We are proud that world-class organizations like K-Challenge, with such demanding design requirements and tight development schedules, have chosen to leverage our PLM technology and expertise to help them achieve their extraordinary goals," said Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions. "EDS has established itself as the PLM market leader by solving some of the world's most challenging business problems for global manufacturers. The trust K-Challenge has placed in our solutions is evidence of the strong technology foundation supporting our leadership position. "Their use of EDS' technology is also indicative of the increasingly expanding market for PLM software."
