AMD Opteron Processors Power New High-End Workstation
AMD today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering the CELSIUS V810 high-end workstation based on the AMD Opteron processor 200 Series. The new workstation is targeted at customers who use compute-intensive applications such as digital content creation (DCC), computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), and scientific and visualization software. Workstations based on the AMD Opteron processor allow end users to run their existing 32-bit applications and provide an easy upgrade path to 64-bit computing when needed. "We worked closely with Fujitsu Siemens Computers, one of Europe's premier OEMs, to provide an AMD Opteron processor-based high-performance graphical workstation ideally suited for Europe's scientists, engineers and digital content creators," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD. "The market strength and expertise of Fujitsu Siemens Computers in that area combined with the computing power and scalability of the AMD Opteron processor provides users of demanding workstation applications with unprecedented possibilities." Users of high-end graphical workstation applications are continuously looking for more computing power to get their job done in less time. They are looking for more addressable memory to edit and move huge data models in real time. The AMD Opteron processor can deliver the computing power and the large memory address space that is needed to move to the next level in professional workstation applications. "Many of our customers were bound within the limits of 32-bit computing. By choosing the AMD Opteron processor for our new CELSIUS V810 workstation, we have been able to extend the possibilities for our customers," said Peter Esser, executive vice president, Volume Products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "The architectural benefits of the AMD Opteron processor and the ability to run 32-bit and 64-bit applications in parallel will enable our customers to develop completely new products, reduce time to market and development costs."
