Absoft Announces HPC SDK Enhanced Edition for IBM POWER
Absoft Corporation and Etnus LLC have entered into a reseller agreement through which Absoft will offer Etnus' market-leading TotalView debugger to its customer-base of scientists and engineers. TotalView will be a premier component in forthcoming "Enhanced Editions" of the Absoft High Performance Computing (HPC) Software Developers Kit (SDK) for IBM Linux on POWER solutions. Each HPC SDK contains software tools needed by developers to build, debug, run, and optimize high-performance computing applications on clusters, including compilers, debuggers, math libraries, message passing libraries, and much more. Tools in the HPC SDKs come from Absoft, open source providers, and other manufacturers such as IBM, Intel, PathScale, and now Etnus, maker of TotalView. TotalView is an advanced 32- and 64-bit graphical debugging environment on major Linux and UNIX platforms providing software developers complete control over threaded and parallel applications written in C, C++ or Fortran. TotalView provides unique, proprietary memory debugging technology that neither instruments code nor alters libraries, and is fully integrated into the debugger. An on-demand, view-based approach to memory debugging enhances the user's experience by eliminating the need to wait for post-mortem style reports common in stand-alone memory tools. Built from the ground up to debug parallel code, TotalView offers the developer unrivaled ability to debug applications that use multi-threading, MPI and OpenMP. Advanced features, such as heap allocation debugging, data analysis, and STLView for easy reading of standard template library data, provide unique capabilities to find and eliminate problems in complex mission critical applications. "Absoft is pleased to offer Etnus' TotalView debugger, the premier advanced debugging solution for mission critical code, as part of our HPC SDK Enhanced Editions for Linux on POWER. TotalView is universally recognized as the most advanced debugging solution available for MPI-based systems," said Wood Lotz, CEO of Absoft. "We also embrace TotalView because of its advanced capabilities and availability on all major UNIX and Linux systems and environments. This encourages customers who port between platforms to continue using TotalView. This common 'look and feel' across platforms is an important component of Absoft's rapidly growing HPC SDK product line." Absoft has long been the dominant Fortran provider in the POWERPC market. Absoft sells the popular XL Fortran and XL C/C++ compilers from IBM for Linux on POWER and Mac OS X on POWERPC. Offering a well rounded set of products, Absoft also sells its own highly reliable and portable 64-bit Fortran 95 compiler for Linux On POWER, with a 64-bit Fortran compiler for OS X forthcoming very soon. Powerful compilers from Absoft are offered both standalone and in bundles, including the new HPC SDK Basic Edition for Linux on POWER, announced at Supercomputing 2004. The HPC Software Developers Kits from Absoft include compilers, debuggers, math libraries, message-passing libraries (MPI) and numerous other tools that help developers quickly compile, debug, run, and optimize their high performance applications on clusters and HPC servers. Increasingly enhanced editions of the HPC SDK for Linux on POWER are coming soon. Absoft will continue offering more 'best-of-breed' tools with its bundled solutions for customers on every popular platform. "We are always pleased to partner with companies like Absoft who share with Etnus a commitment to provide premium, world-class solutions and maintain solid relationships with other industry-leading software and hardware providers," said Chris Doehlert, Etnus President and CEO. "TotalView's rich feature set is available across many platforms, so customers can efficiently move from platform to platform. This cross-platform design philosophy also drives Absoft's HPC SDK strategy, giving customers added flexibility and choice in their development platforms," added Doehlert. General availability of the HPC SDK Enhanced Edition for Linux on POWER is planned for the third quarter of 2005. Prices are available by contacting Absoft.
