Dell Servers Power World's Largest Search Engine
AUSTIN, TX -- Fast Search & Transfer(TM) (FAST), a leading developer of search and real-time alert technologies, has used Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) servers and storage systems to attain the title of the world's largest search engine. FAST recently announced that AlltheWeb.com(TM), the company's search technology showcase, delivers search results from a catalog of more than 2.1 billion Web pages, making it the world's most comprehensive search resource. "We are constantly expanding our services to keep up with the ongoing growth of the Web and to deliver some of the most advanced search solutions available today," said Dr. John M. Lervik, chief executive officer of FAST. "Using Dell systems exclusively in our data center helps FAST provide our customers an extremely reliable service, and supports our business objective of delivering a high quality search experience on the Web." From AlltheWeb.com's formal launch in 1999, Dell systems have powered this next-generation search engine from FAST. Since then, FAST has escalated AlltheWeb.com's search capability from 80 million Web pages in 1999 to more than 2.1 billion today. The company has built a data center using more than 1,000 Dell PowerEdge servers and Dell PowerVault storage systems providing nearly 200 terabytes of storage. Running the latest version of FAST's search software, these industry-standard Dell systems deliver affordability for FAST and rapid response times for millions of AlltheWeb.com users each day.
