Alias/Wavefront Ships Maya 4 For Linux

TORONTO, CANADA -- Alias/Wavefront(TM), an SGI (NYSE:SGI) company, today announced that it has begun shipping Maya 4 for the Red Hat(R) Linux(R) operating system. The version released today will give users access to the workflow and feature enhancements of Maya 4 with the performance, reliability and cost effectiveness of the Linux environment. Maya Builder(TM), Maya Complete(TM) and Maya Unlimited(TM), which became available on Linux for the first time this past March, have proved highly successful to date, particularly in the film/visual effects industry. "Maya 4 on Linux follows only eight months after Maya's initial debut on the Linux operating system," stated Sr. Maya Product Manager, Chris Ford. "Interest in Linux continues to grow, especially among customers with large Maya installations, and this much requested new version comes in response to a huge number of inquiries. We are delighted to be able to make our Linux version of Maya current with Maya on other platforms." The Moving Picture Company (MPC) in London recently used Maya for Linux to create shots for Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. Says Peter Muyzers, CG technical director: "With Alias/Wavefront's port of Maya to the Linux platform, it was an easy decision for MPC to adopt the powerful, versatile Linux environment. Maya for Linux was the main drive behind this change. Now in the final stages of the transition to Linux, MPC is very pleased with the performance of this operating software. Packaged with the latest hardware technology, Maya for Linux is fast, cost effective and more efficient for our artists." For further information visit www.aliaswavefront.com
