SAS Shows WebHound on InfiniBand-Enabled Intel Servers

CARY, NC -- SAS Institute, a market leader in analytical CRM and data warehousing, today demonstrated its SAS WebHound(TM) solution running on Intel's InfiniBand-enabled platform. Shown at the Intel Developer's Forum, in San Jose, Calif., WebHound integrates back-office, front-office and e-business data into one intelligence center for information management, click-stream analysis which tracks Web consumer behavior. InfiniBand architecture is a new server I/O technology specification that simplifies and speeds server-to-server connections and links to other server-related systems such as remote storage and networking devices. By optimizing SAS(R) WebHound on Intel InfiniBand enabled servers and software, data center managers can expect to reduce latency and improve reliability and scalability in the data center. "WebHound, part of SAS' Enterprise Data Management Architecture, uses SAS' award-winning warehousing and analytics technology," said Keith Collins, SAS senior vice president and chief technology officer. "Running on Intel InfiniBand-enabled servers, WebHound provides a new realm of performance scalability and reliability to meet the demands of Internet data centers. It enables a company to better optimize and understand the impact of the e-channel on its customers, suppliers and organization." "Intel is pleased to work with SAS to develop InfiniBand-enabled solutions that deliver immediate value to the data center easily and flexibly in the complex server environment of the future," said Tom Macdonald, general manager of Intel's Advanced Components Division. "To generate a broad implementation of an InfiniBand architecture-based infrastructure, Intel and SAS are optimizing a variety of solutions to support servers, switches, and the interconnection of storage and networking devices within an InfiniBand fabric." WebHound enables SAS customers to understand and optimize their e-business initiatives as they relate to the customer, supplier and organization. The needed SAS technology is custom-fit to optimize any company's e-business strategy. WebHound uses dynamic Web reporting through any browser (including wireless devices) to provide accurate information about how customers interact with your Web site. The powerful data-gathering and summarization component handles large volumes of Web traffic information. InfiniBand architecture's simple connectivity, improved performance and enhanced interoperability features increase Intel-based server performance and reliability, delivering products that easily scale to meet the growth needs of e-Business data centers, storage service providers and server farms worldwide. By replacing shared bus architecture with InfiniBand technology, servers have the flexibility to remove I/O from the server chassis creating greater server density. This allows for a more flexible and scalable data center as independent fabric nodes may be added based on individual need. Server, storage and networking nodes connect as peers through the central InfiniBand fabric. For more information visit www.sas.com
