LECOM buys equipment for Gannon Patient Simulation Center
A $50,000 grant from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine has provided sophisticated new equipment for Gannon University's Patient Simulation Center.
The grant bought a simulated human torso and an ultrasound system for the center, where students practice medical procedures on interactive robots.
Students will be able to practice minor surgical skills on the lifelike torso. The ultrasound system provides quality images as students practice placing tiny tubes in veins.
"LECOM's generous donation will allow us to raise the quality of health care in our region by raising the quality of health care training," said Carolynn Masters, dean of Gannon's Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences.
In addition to Gannon students, LECOM students and Millcreek Community Hospital residents also use the Patient Simulation Center, which opened in 2009.
