Boeing Selects EMC For Managing Storage Assets On Defense Program

EMC Corporation announced that The Boeing Company, the world's largest aerospace company, has selected EMC CLARiiON CX networked storage and the EMC ControlCenter family of open management software to consolidate storage management for three data centers used by the Missile Defense Systems program - part of the company's Integrated Defense Systems business unit. The program is in the midst of transitioning from a direct-attached environment to a networked storage infrastructure. Boeing is implementing CLARiiON CX600 systems across its three data centers to achieve more centralized, efficient and cost-effective management of its information infrastructure. EMC's ControlCenter family of open software will be used to manage the CLARiiON CX storage arrays and non-EMC storage residing on heterogeneous servers. With ControlCenter, companies can view complex, multi-vendor networked storage infrastructures, gather data on performance, and make changes to storage allocations and other elements. The result is increased storage utilization, lower operational costs, deferment of capital investments, improved availability and a more flexible, responsive storage environment. The CLARiiON CX600 networked storage system is the flagship member of EMC's award-winning CLARiiON CX series. It provides market-leading price/performance; intuitive management software; and consolidation for Windows, UNIX, Linux and NetWare environments. EMC offers CLARiiON customers the option to use ATA disk technology within the CX series architecture: They can mix any combination of high-performance Fibre Channel drives with lower-cost ATA drives in the same system. In addition, CLARiiON customers can manage these multiple tiers of storage from one software application such as EMC SnapView.
