BlueArc Adds Advanced Data Search Capabilities

Enterprise and Vertical Customers can now search up to 4PB of BlueArc tiered storage and migrate data to high-density archive and retention systems: Aiming to help eliminate the thousands of hours and millions of dollars of productivity that companies lose as a result of employees' ineffective search for information, BlueArc Corporation, a leader in scalable, high-performance unified network storage, announced support for the Hitachi Data Discovery Suite unveiled at CeBIT by Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi. The search and discovery solution, integrated with BlueArc's new data and file management API, builds on the company's new Titan 3000 unified storage platform to help data-driven businesses respond quickly to customers and comply with regulatory requirements. "Powered by the Hitachi Data Discovery Suite, BlueArc gives customers in industries from life sciences to litigation support the high-performance, reliable option they've long sought for file-intensive search and discovery," said Michael Hay, senior director of product strategy, Hitachi Data Systems. "BlueArc is a crucial ally in our vision for integrated file and content services." Based on a distinctive hardware-based architecture that delivers the world's fastest storage performance, BlueArc Titan technology anchors the Hitachi High-performance NAS (HNAS) solution and provides an intelligent platform for file services. The Hitachi Data Discovery Suite extends that platform to data management, for simplified, ultra-fast and incredibly accurate search and retrieval of files from the entire storage cluster namespace. Users and applications can search multiple data sources using a single query through a single interface to HNAS and the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. Search and Discovery Helps Control Costs Ineffective search can cost a company thousands of dollars per employee per year. The cost of data discovery can be equally high or higher, when compliance with the rules of evidence in litigation discovery are at stake. In addition, enterprise search presents unique challenges including a more diverse range of storage platforms and file formats that Internet search tools are not designed to address. The Hitachi Data Discovery Suite searches full file formats for more than 370 types of files. "Until now, most search tools simply haven't matched the capacity of BlueArc unified storage solutions," said Mike Gustafson, CEO, BlueArc. "The Hitachi search and discovery solution makes the most of Titan servers' scalability and speed. It's the latest evidence that both companies' technological strengths and our close working relationship are delivering on our vision for business at the speed of change." BlueArc support for the Hitachi Data Discovery Suite supports the company's intelligent platform for file services strategy including an application programming interface which enables customers and partners in BlueArc's ecosystem to integrate Titan 3000 server features into custom applications. BlueArc has qualified both the Hitachi Data Discovery Suite and the Hitachi Content Archive Platform with the company's Titan product line.
