Berri Ltd of Australia keeps data fresh with DataCore Software

Berri Ltd, Australia's largest fresh juice producer and the leading importer of juice to over 20 countries, has implemented SANsymphony software from DataCore to manage and enhance its storage network of IBM storage. Berri deployed SANsymphony to upgrade its data protection architecture by implementing a disaster recovery system which safeguards the company's data by maintaining identical remote site copies over standard IP networks. "Replication of our data to our Disaster Recovery site has been achieved with a low cost solution that can remain in place long after we retire hardware," stated George Despinoudis, Data Centre Manager for Berri. "DataCore software just works, it's been installed now for nearly 6 months and it just performed. User requests for extra disk space are easily achieved and only take minutes, regardless if it's Fibre Channel or iSCSI." Berri needed to find a way to maximize its existing IBM storage and add the capability to do remote site disaster recovery of data. Due to cost concerns, Berri needed a low cost approach that leveraged existing IP networking infrastructure and iSCSI. Also, they wanted to address a major productivity issue - serving disk space to different application systems without incurring the downtime needed to add physical disks. To address their concerns, they worked with Synergy Plus who proposed a DataCore solution. After reviewing the competition and alternative proposals, SANsymphony was selected. "DataCore opened up our choices on what storage and networking we could use; we were able to future-proof our architecture so we can absorb newer technologies as they make sense to incorporate," said CIO, Ross Bradley. "Synergy Plus provided the know-how and together we were able to implement a solution that met our technical and budget needs." "We are very pleased to add Berri to the growing list of users in Australia protecting their data with DataCore," declared Peter Weston, Director of DataCore's Australia Operations.
