DaimlerChrysler Selects NX Nastran from UGS

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and DaimlerChrysler AG have extended their collaboration through a new contract for NX Nastran, a leading computer aided engineering (CAE) software for engineering analysis. More than 100 simulation engineers at the central automotive and engine development sites in Sindelfingen and Untertuerkheim, Germany are now using NX Nastran as their primary solution for digital simulation. UGS made the announcement in conjunction with its analyst/media briefing event being held July 14-15 in New York. The briefing is the first such event UGS has held since announcing on May 27 the closing of its sale by EDS to three private equity firms and its launch of operations as an independent software company under the UGS brand. In addition, DaimlerChrysler will be actively involved in the development of the NX Nastran software. This interactive relationship reflects UGS' strategy of partnering with customers to provide open software solutions that deliver value based on heterogeneous customer environments. DaimlerChrysler expects similar improvements in speeding up innovation with NX Nastran as the company has experienced with existing installed software solutions from UGS. The automobile manufacturer currently uses UGS' Teamcenter(R) portfolio for enterprise process management, engineering data management and enterprise visualization, validation and analysis. The move to NX Nastran is aimed to reach clear productivity progresses on a long-term basis and to meet the constantly rising requirements. NX Nastran is used to optimize new products at the computer and is an important basis for efficient development processes. "In the second half of 2003 we did a thorough evaluation of NX Nastran and the support organization," said Juergen Kohler, Leiter Berechnung Fahrzeugfunktionen (Head of Automotive Function Computing) at DaimlerChrysler EP/CSB. "We found UGS' vision for NX Nastran, as well as the company's willingness to cooperate with other solution providers and its commitment to the CAE market very convincing. We are looking forward to a close partnership with UGS." UGS launched NX Nastran in September 2003. Nastran, the world's most widely used finite-element analysis (FEA) software, was previously available only from MSC.Software Corporation as MSC.Nastran.
