Blade PC Solution for the Enterprise Financial Market

Appro (www.appro.com), a leading developer of high-density, high-performance enterprise servers and Avocent Digital Desktops (www.avocent.com), a pioneer in digital bus extension technology and distributed computing provider will demonstrate the most powerful transport method between a PC blade and a remote end user workstation. This solution will be included in the Appro HyperBlade server demonstration at the SIA, Security Industry Association show at the Hilton New York Hotel, Appro booth #100, June 8-10, 2004. Appro will showcase a Blade PC solution enabling businesses to consolidate and extend computing for better security and manageability while maintaining a high-quality, personalized desktop experience for end-users. The Avocent Cstation is fully compatible with industry standard software applications and with the Appro HyperBlade. The Avocent Cstation sits at the end-user location with standard monitor and keyboard maintaining the one-to-one relationship of one user connecting to one assigned HyperBlade server. The benefits of this solution include less heat on the trading floor, (MAC's) easy moves, adds and changes, centralized PCs - backracking enabled architecture reducing trader downtime, desktop support and increasing asset security. The infrastructure, Appro HyperBlade backracking solution, resides in the data center, where it's more secure and can be easily maintained. The Avocent Cstation solution consists of C-Link card that plugs into a PCI slot within a PC blade and extends the internal PCI bus to a desktop Cstation appliance located at the end-user’s workstation. The Appro HyperBlade server is ideal for enabling this backracking solution. It provides high-density and offers centralized IT control of all computer users. Its key features include outstanding performance, reliability and superior mechanical and thermal design. It supports 80-hyperBlades in a custom rack cabinet or 50 blades in a standard rack cabinet, Intel or AMD processors delivering 32-bit and 64-bit computing, Microsoft Windows XP, 2000 professional for PCs as well as Windows Server 2003. In addition it includes the BladeDome server management tool for the system administrator. “This Blade PC solution represents a viable substitute for standard desktop PCs in enterprises that value tighter security, better optimized floor space and lower operating costs," said Daniel Kim, President and CEO of Appro. "Teaming up with Avocent Digital Desktops and Microsoft Windows family enables Appro HyperBlade server to take full advantage of the benefits of centralizing computing."
