DaimlerChrysler Selects MTS for New Vehicle Development Program

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN -- MTS Systems (Nasdaq: MTSC) announced today the receipt of a significant order from DaimlerChrysler AG, Sindelfingen, Germany, for software tools to be used to shorten the development time of a specific vehicle development program. The order combines MTS's specialized software products and dedicated process consulting resources, software from Mechanical Dynamics (Nasdaq: MDII) and MTS's previously installed physical testing equipment. "MTS's software products combined with physical testing for validation demonstrated potential to provide better predictive methods earlier in the development process," said Norbert Schaub, senior manager, passenger car development at DaimlerChrysler. "The integration of analytical models with physical testing will allow us to design higher quality vehicles in less time," he said. "We are truly excited about MTS's involvement in this vehicle development program," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS chairman and CEO. "It puts the customer's stamp of approval on our strategy to provide tightly integrated tools to accelerate the design validation process. MTS was chosen for our strength in understanding the customer's internal processes, as well as our ability to bring world class innovation across both hardware and software methodologies." The project will focus on integrating the tools and experience into DaimlerChrysler's new vehicle design and development. "It's gratifying that MTS was the preferred partner in this process," Emery said. "We're convinced that MTS and our strategic partner, Mechanical Dynamics, together have unparalleled capabilities to reduce customer costs and to speed their new automotive products to market, thus creating new growth opportunities for each company." MTS software and services includes Component Empirical Dynamic Models (EDM(TM)) and Virtual Test Lab software. Mechanical Dynamics software includes a number of ADAMS(R) tools for functional virtual prototyping solutions. With this purchase the customer will receive advanced modeling and development tools and services that complement MTS's full vehicle test systems and component test systems.
