ORNL Names Enterra Solutions CEO Stephen F. DeAngelis as Visiting Scientist

Enterra Solutions, LLC, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) announced today that Enterra CEO Stephen F. DeAngelis has been named a visiting scientist with the Laboratory. DeAngelis will collaborate with the Laboratory to define a strategic scientific agenda that brings together multidisciplinary areas including geopolitics, emerging threats (such as nuclear, biological and chemical weapons), advanced information technologies and knowledge management approaches. "I am excited to strengthen Enterra's ties to Oak Ridge," DeAngelis said. "I look forward to building bridges between scientific disciplines to create next-generation solutions for both national security and commercial applications. This collaboration will provide an exciting venue for scientists and academics to explore how to make the world more resilient in the age of globalization." Enterra Solutions established a best-practices, systems approach for making nation states, governmental agencies, corporations and transnational organizations more resilient in a rapidly changing set of security, compliance and competitive environments driven by globalization. The initial research and development focus is to create unique intellectual capital, best practices and a standards-based flexible framework for dynamically responding to chemical, nuclear, biological and cyber threats, as well as organizational vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure industries and the federal government. The research will meld the commercial and federal relationships maintained by Enterra Solutions with ORNL's computational and scientific capabilities, as well as the relationships the Laboratory maintains with the U.S. Department of Energy, other federal government agencies and the University of Tennessee. "Stephen DeAngelis brings a unique perspective on the nexus of business evolution and global technology development that will serve the laboratory's science agenda well," said Dr. Frank Akers, associate laboratory director for national security at ORNL. "Together, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Enterra Solutions will fashion the concepts, technologies and tools necessary to make organizations adaptive and resilient in rapidly changing environments."
