SGI Selects Neterion's Low Profile 10GbE Adapter for New Line of Servers
New Adapter Offers Increased Bandwidth Advantages to SGI’s High-Performance Line of Altix and XE Server and Cluster Platforms – Neterion today announced the availability of a new low profile 10 GbE adapter card designed for high-performance server, cluster and storage platforms from SGI. The low profile SGI 10-Gbit Ethernet Network Adapter is compatible with both PCI-X 1.0 and 2.0 DDR bus interfaces. The design also extends Neterion’s market leadership position in virtualization at the I/O level. 
Based on specific feedback from its customers, Neterion developed the SGI 10-Gbit Ethernet Network Adapter to provide integration, performance, size and scalability advantages for the full family of SGI Altix and SGI Altix XE server, cluster and storage platforms. The SGI 10-Gbit Ethernet Network Adapter includes full native support in drivers already shipping in several major Linux distributions. “SGI customers have some of the most demanding performance requirements in the industry for I/O intensive applications such as rich media transfer,” said Neterion’s president and CEO, Dave Zabrowski. “This new adapter, with its low profile form factor, will provide reduced size, improved performance and scalability advantages for Altix and Altix XE servers and clusters.” SGI 10-Gbit Ethernet Network Adapter is designed for the following Linux-based SGI products:
- Altix 4700 – Highly dense modular blade design featuring world's most powerful server architecture
- Altix 3700 – The most versatile supercomputing platform available to handle HPC workloads
- Altix 450 – Mid-range blade server with dual-core processors designed for 'plug and solve' flexibility
- Altix 350 – Linux-based mid-range server offering best-in-class performance
- Altix 330 – Entry level 1U size server that scales to support HPC applications
- Altix XE Servers and Clusters – SGI’s newest product line, based on the Intel Xeon Dual-core 5100 processor architecture. Altix XE provides industry-leading energy efficiency and performance in factory-integrated, customizable clusters.
- SGI InfiniteStorage NAS and SAN systems that are based on SGI Altix “As densities increase and space limitations become a critical factor in data centers, the addition of Neterion’s 10-Gbit Ethernet Network Adapter to our Altix and Altix XE product families will provide a significant competitive advantage,” noted Dave Parry, senior vice president and product general manager for SGI. “A smaller, more energy efficient, scalable architecture that offers greatly improved performance is a winning combination for our customers.”
