The United States and Mexico presented HP with an award recognizing the important role it plays in advancing the social and economic well-being of Mexican citizens. The 2005 Partnership for Prosperity Good Partner Award was launched under the auspices of the U.S.-Mexico Partnership for Prosperity initiative announced by Presidents Bush and Fox in September 2001. HP was nominated by Boise State University President Robert Kustra and selected by the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce and Treasury and their Mexican counterpart agency, the Ministry of Economy, for the company's work in bringing technology and infrastructure to Mexico. Technology is an integral component to boosting both the U.S. and Mexican economies as well as the creation of jobs in both countries. "HP is honored to be recognized as a strong supporter of the U.S.-Mexico Presidential initiative," said Carlos Guzman, president and general director, Hewlett-Packard México, S. de R.L. de C.V. "HP takes seriously its responsibility to partner with public entities such as Boise State University to promote economic prosperity and job creation." In Mexico, Fundación Teletón A.C, an institution committed to underprivileged children in Mexico, and the Mexican Electronic, Telecommunications and Information Technology Industry Chamber nominated HP as well for its contribution to furthering the country's healthcare, economic development and environmental responsibility to Mexico. "I'm pleased to present HP with the Partnership for Prosperity Good Partner Award for their efforts in helping strengthen relations between the United States and Mexico," said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez. "HP illustrates America's values of exporting opportunity and prosperity across the globe. They and many American companies answered the call of Presidents Bush and Fox to engage in corporate stewardship and get involved in helping people and communities in need." "HP makes an important contribution to Mexican citizens by supporting education in Mexico through the Community Center Learning Project that works with various institutions to bring technology to less privileged areas of the country," said Mexico's Minister of Economy, Sergio Garcia de Alba. "HP promotes respect, care and the conservation of the environment by designing products with minimal environmental impact. HP is serving a key role in helping Mexico become successful by improving technological know-how and promoting investment in technological advances."
