IBM #1 IN GLOBAL SERVER REVENUE, #1 IN BLADES IN 1Q06

IBM Leads Blade Server Revenue for Eight Quarters -- Gartner today reported that IBM is first in worldwide server revenue and blade server revenue, and grew fastest of the top five vendors in x86 units in the first quarter 2006, according to Gartner's Worldwide Servers Quarterly Statistics for 1QCY2006. According to Gartner, a leading provider of research and analysis about the global information technology industry, IBM is number one in worldwide server revenue with 28.6 percent of revenue share in first quarter 2006. The report showed IBM grew its x86 revenue by 11 percent and volume by 23 percent in the first quarter 2006 year-to-year. IBM led in blade server revenue share for the eight consecutive quarters ending first quarter 2006, growing its blade revenue 61 percent in first quarter 2006 year-to-year, to take 38.5 percent of the revenue and 31.8 percent of volume. "IBM continues to grow faster than our major competitors in the x86 server segment," said Susan Whitney, general manager, IBM System x.
