Emulex Corporation, the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, today announced that Cray, Inc. has selected the Emulex 2Gb/s LP9802DC Fibre Channel PCI-X HBA for use as part of the Cray X1 System. As a result, Cray customers can now benefit from the reliability and serviceability provided by Emulex's storage connectivity solutions while using Cray systems for some of the most demanding computing applications ever performed. Emulex LP9802DC Fibre Channel HBAs are immediately available for use with Cray X1 high performance computing systems. "Emulex HBAs are used within all Cray X1 systems to provide connectivity between key embedded components, as well as being used in a more typical manner with networked storage associated with the Cray X1 system." Emulex HBAs offer a unique firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across multiple product generations, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities and also ensures a lower total cost of ownership. Emulex HBAs, including the LP9802DC, are fully compatible with drivers that support the company's centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware(tm), which incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a storage solution from a single console.
