Cray To Hold Advanced Technical Workshop

Cray Inc. invites HPC users and other members of the global HPC user community to participate in the 2004 Cray Advanced Technical Workshop, to be held June 16-18 in Bologna, Italy, prior to the ISC2004 conference in Heidelberg, Germany (June 22-25). The event will be hosted by CINECA and will feature presentations by representatives of various European and U.S. HPC centers, as well as Cray experts, on the latest scientific advances being produced on Cray systems and on their plans for the future. Participants will also receive technical previews of Cray systems scheduled for introduction later this year and beyond, including the ongoing Cray X1™ series, the "Red Storm" MPP system, and the Cray XD1™ high performance computing system (formerly called the OctigaBay 12K system). The preliminary speaker list includes representatives from ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), SNL (Sandia National Laboratories), INM (Spain's Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia), ICM/Warsaw University, as well as senior technical officials from Cray. Cray Europe and the Cray User Group will co-sponsor the June 16-18 event hosted by CINECA. "We invite everyone interested in Cray plans and performance milestones to participate in the Bologna workshop," said Cray User Group President Barbara Horner-Miller, associate director of the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center. She said the Cray User Group meeting, CUG 2004, will be held May 17-21 in Knoxville, Tennessee. "We are very pleased about this opportunity to share the achievements of leading Cray users and discuss our exciting upcoming products in more technical detail," said Ulla Thiel, Cray director of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). "Cray is the only major vendor that is focused and dedicated entirely to HPC. We want to show how our balanced architectures are making a difference to users today, as well as how we plan to increase performance leadership for HPC in the future." "This workshop is part of Cray's commitment to continue building strong relationships with the HPC community in Europe, with the important goal of advancing the state of supercomputing," said Pete Ungaro, Cray vice president, worldwide sales and marketing. Registration for this free of charge, limited-attendance event can be requested online at www.cray.com/catw, by emailing to catw_Europe@cray.com, or by phoning Julie Squire in Cray's UK office at 44-118-903-3178.
