MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- SGI (NYSE: SGI) today announced that Charles A. Steinberg has joined its board of directors. Steinberg has extensive experience in the broadcast, production and film industries. Most recently, he was president of the Broadcast and Professional Company of Sony Electronics, Inc., where he was instrumental in the evolution of Sony's digital storage, camera, display, editing and high-definition systems. Also during this time, he served as chairman of the board and CEO of Sony Trans Com, Inc. In July 1999 Steinberg retired from Sony and is now a consultant to Sony Electronics and serves on various boards of other electronics companies and a venture capital firm. Prior to joining Sony in 1988, Steinberg was with Ampex Corporation for 25 years serving in various positions including president and CEO and chairman of the board. Steinberg has received three Emmy Awards: the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award Emmy, as well as awards for production and broadcast of the first four National Football League (NFL) games in high-definition television and for his technical efforts at the Games of the XXVII Olympics in Australia. He has also received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Association of Imaging Technology and Sound (ITS), and the Presidential Proclamation Award from the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) -- all in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the industry. Richard Kramlich, a principal in the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates, and James A. McDivitt, the former astronaut and senior vice president of government relations and international at Rockwell International Corporation, and Arthur L.
