SGI Names New Member to Its Board of Directors

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- SGI (NYSE: SGI) today announced that Charles A. Steinberg has joined its board of directors. Steinberg has extensive experience in the broadcast, production and film industries. In July 1999 Steinberg retired from Sony and is now a consultant to Sony Electronics and serves on various boards of other electronics companies and a venture capital firm. Prior to joining Sony in 1988, Steinberg was with Ampex Corporation for 25 years serving in various positions including president and CEO and chairman of the board. Steinberg has received three Emmy Awards: the Charles F. He has also received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Association of Imaging Technology and Sound (ITS), and the Presidential Proclamation Award from the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) -- all in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the industry. "We're delighted to welcome Charles Steinberg to SGI's board," said Bob Bishop, chairman and CEO of SGI. "As we mark our 20th year and reflect on our strength in visualization and digital entertainment, it only seems fitting that Charles, whose background is vast in these very same areas, would join our board. His understanding of the broadcast and production industry will enable him to make a unique contribution to the future of Silicon Graphics." C.
