Oracle & Compaq Note Test Results of SAP R/3 on Oracle9i/AlphaServer Sys

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, and Compaq Computer Corporation, today announced initial performance tests with SAP R/3 4.6C and the Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters that showed excellent scalability and throughput results. The testing environment included SAP® R/3® 4.6C and Oracle9i Real Application Clusters running the parallel SD workload on a four-node Compaq Tru64 UNIX ES45 AlphaServer cluster with 16 processors. The robustness of Oracle9i Real Application Clusters and Compaq's TruCluster Server software technology provides the foundation for linear scaling which enables on-demand capacity planning and flexibility in deployment. The performance increased by a factor of 1.8 when going from a one-node configuration to two-node configuration, and by a factor of 1.8 going from a two to four-node configuration. The SAP R/3 application is an enterprise class application used by some of the largest companies in the world, and when combined with Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on Compaq, provides a compelling mix of out-of-the-box scalability and fault tolerance. ``We are pleased to demonstrate the ability to scale the number of users for SAP applications using Oracle9i Real Application Clusters technology with absolutely no application modifications required by SAP,'' said Charles Rozwat, executive vice president of Server Technologies at Oracle. ``With this significant cluster test for an SAP system, Compaq and Oracle have clearly demonstrated the power of clustering to provide unparalleled scalability and reliability without sacrificing performance in building the real-time enterprise,'' said Rich Marcello, vice president and general manager of Compaq's High Performance Systems Division. The current performance test results build on long standing engineering relationships between Compaq, SAP, and Oracle. The companies are working to finalize official certification of the results, including official support for Oracle9i Database by SAP.
