Sun Announces iForce Portal Solution for Service Providers
SANTA CLARA, CA -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW), today announced the delivery of the first iForce(SM) portal solution for service providers (SPs) based on the Sun(TM) Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) architecture. Working with Telus, Canada's largest service provider, Sun created the open solution as a framework that SPs can use to build a portal that serves as a central information repository for customers, partners, suppliers and employees. The portal solution is based on the iPlanet(TM) Portal Server and other core applications from the Sun ONE platform as well as products from Sun technology partners. The new solution will help SPs speed up deployment and integration of industry standard portals bringing new revenue-generating services to market faster. ``Enterprises are increasingly turning to SPs for technology solutions that will help them more effectively service and manage relationships with employees, customers and business partners,'' said Reed Hornberger, vice president of Horizontal Solutions at Sun. ``The iForce portal solution for service providers provides an advanced, integratable, Web-based architecture and methodology that SPs can quickly turn into customized portal solutions for their end users in multiple vertical markets.'' ``We needed a proven technology leader that could deliver an open, integratable and scalable architecture. It was clear Sun offered a solution that met our current requirements and positioned us well for the future,'' said Aziz Pirani, vice president of sales and marketing at Telus. ``This portal solution puts us in an excellent competitive position, enabling us to serve several vertical markets with similar service delivery requirements. We know we've opened up new revenue-enhancing opportunities that we otherwise would not have access to without the iForce portal solution for service providers.'' The Telus Solution Leveraging Sun's iForce(SM) Ready Center to help reduce risk and speed time to deployment, the scalable solution incorporates best-of-breed products from Sun, iPlanet and leading independent software vendors (ISVs). As deployed at Telus, the portal integrates multiple data-sources and applications from iForce Partners such as Oracle, Siebel, BEA, JDEdwards and SAP. These applications integrate into a portal platform built on the Sun ONE architecture and with award-winning products, including the iPlanet Portal Server, iPlanet Messaging Server, iPlanet Calendar Server and iPlanet Integration Server running on Sun Enterprise(TM) and Sun Fire(TM) servers, Sun storage and the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment. Working with Telus, Sun designed a portal solution that is flexible -- able to be rapidly adapted from one industry to the next -- and scalable to meet changing business needs. Currently, Telus builds its solution on top of the Sun ONE architecture to deliver insurance and financial services -- including claims processing, call center and CRM functions -- through a single portal. iForce Solutions are an important part of Sun's iForce Initiative designed to help customers to speed time-to-deployment and reduce risk. Sun's iForce Ready Centers worldwide provide customers with a collaborative environment to build customer proof-of-concept demonstrations that tailor iForce Solutions to meet their unique environments and leverage the expertise of Sun, Sun Professional Services and the iForce partner community. Other customers can build customized versions of this solution by contacting their local sales representative. For additional information visit www.sun.com
