VERITAS & IBM Deliver Solutions to Support Growing DB2 Database Market
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the storage software company, and IBM Data Management Systems have extended their partnership to deliver two new storage virtualization products for the IBM DB2 Universal Database (UDB) market: VERITAS Database Edition(TM) for DB2 and VERITAS Database Edition/HA(TM) for DB2. These solutions supply DB2 customers with a non-proprietary storage management infrastructure that optimizes the performance of database applications and simplifies the administration of the underlying DB2 storage and server environment. The HA (high availability) version of VERITAS Database Edition for DB2 adds VERITAS software clustering technology for companies requiring high availability in DB2 environments. "We are pleased to have VERITAS as a partner delivering DB2-based offerings to help customers address their storage and server network needs," said Jim Kelly, vice president, IBM Data Management Solutions. VERITAS Software offers a portfolio of intelligent software that scales from the desktop to the enterprise. In addition to supporting Oracle and Sybase databases, VERITAS Database Edition products are now designed to optimize performance, ensure availability and increase overall manageability of IBM DB2 UDB environments. VERITAS Software and IBM have also signed a Cooperative Support Agreement that broadens the pre-existing agreement, and improves the companies' ability to provide enterprise-class support to mutual customers. This new accord ensures faster problem resolution and encompasses all of the joint solutions that VERITAS Software and IBM offer to enterprise customers. "DB2 is the fastest growing and second largest UNIX database," said Mark Shainman, META Group. "Storage software products that optimize storage for use with DB2 can offer a higher level of database manageability, availability and performance." VERITAS Database Edition for DB2 integrates closely with other VERITAS Software storage management products that protect and ensure the availability of critical information stored in DB2 environments, providing companies with a storage management framework specifically designed for DB2. This DB2 offering is the latest in a series of cooperative efforts between VERITAS Software and IBM to deliver best-of-breed technologies for enterprise customers. "VERITAS and IBM have previously worked together to deliver high availability and online backup solutions that support DB2," said Kevin Reinis, vice president and general manager, IBM Division, VERITAS Software. "We plan to continue to collaborate with IBM to produce software-based, enterprise storage solutions that accommodate DB2 and other markets." For more information visit www.veritas.com
