The Summer 2010 Joint Techs, a premier international conference of network engineers, hosted by the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet,) will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from July 11-15, 2010. Since 1998, the Joint Techs conference, co-sponsored by the ESnet Site Coordinating Committee (ESCC) and Internet2, has brought together networking experts from around the world to share their expertise, present innovative strategies and work toward common solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing research and education networks.

The Summer 2010 Joint Techs track session agenda will focus on three important areas: performance measurement and monitoring, emerging technologies, and campus networking.

The Performance Measurement and Monitoring track will cover multi-domain, end-to-end network measurement projects and tools—both IP-based, and circuit-based—and include discussions on a wide range of measurement and monitoring tools and use cases, as well as best practices in application, network and device performance tuning and diagnosis. User experience and secure access will also be addressed.

The Emerging Technologies track will feature various components of the National Science Foundation’s GENI project, as well as other network testbed projects, new bulk data transfer tools, identity management topics and cloud services for campuses and laboratories.

In the Campus Networking track, topics include IPv6 deployment, IP Multicast, Voice over IP, Quality of Service for voice, video and other types of real-time communications, wireless networking, network and application security and other special network infrastructure needs.

The conference will also present a range of tutorials, high-performance networking technology demonstrations and industry updates. To date, there are four tutorials planned for Sunday, July 11, 2010:

* The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) tutorial – Representatives from Indiana University will provide attendees information how the BGP path selection process can be tuned to achieve particular ends, the causes of some recent global routing flaps, how to recognize common problems and recommendations for best current practices within the R&E community

* Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) tutorial – Internet Initiative Japan will provide attendees information on how to work with this technology to help solve the problem of authenticating address blocks, autonomous system numbers, and routes.

* Network Tools tutorial – Representatives from Internet2, ESnet and UC Berkeley will present recently developed or updated network performance and measurement tools.

* Improving End-to-End Bulk Data Transfer Rates tutorial – Led by representatives from ESnet, the presenters will address solutions to moving TeraByte-scale data sets from one site to another.

Additionally, in conjunction with Joint Techs, Internet2 is offering two pre- and post-conference workshops. They are:

* Network Performance Workshop - Saturday, July 10 through Sunday, July 11 – The 1.5 day workshop provides attendees with a working knowledge of how to quickly identify and solve common host configuration and network performance problems.

* IPv6 Workshop - Wednesday, July 14 afternoon through Friday, July 16. Led by Chris Spears and Aaron Wise of OARnet and Ed Furia of Indiana University, participants will design and set up a functioning IPv6 network.
