Liquid Computing Chooses Fulcrum FocalPoint as 10GE Interface for New Liquid Elements Unified Computing Solution
Fulcrum Microsystems has announced that its industry leading low-latency FocalPoint silicon has been chosen by Liquid Computing for its recently launched Liquid Elements unified computing solution, delivering advanced 10GE switching to meet the demand for more cost-effective performance and bandwidth in the data center.
Liquid Elements is the first solution to deliver the power of unified computing across standards-based data center infrastructure from leading brands. With Liquid Elements, servers, networking and storage resources are connected by a unified network fabric and can be managed as an integrated system through a single software interface. This configuration lowers the cost of provisioning and repurposing resources in support of service requirements by enabling network administrators to wire the solution once and manage remotely.
The Liquid Elements interconnect is based on Fulcrum’s industry-leading FocalPoint FM3224 10GE switch which features full 10GE throughput on all ports, the industry-lowest at 200 nanoseconds of latency, and data center bridging features necessary to enable 10-Gigabit Ethernet to be the data center interconnect technology of choice. With this low latency, high-performance interconnect, network administrators can take advantage of the cost-effective open nature of Ethernet, avoiding expensive, proprietary alternatives.
“We chose Fulcrum because it provides open access to its low-latency 10GE FocalPoint technology, when switches have traditionally been closed and proprietary in nature,” said Mike Kemp, CTO of Liquid Computing. “The ability to fully leverage Fulcrum’s switching technology is key to delivering core capabilities in Liquid Elements, including the high bandwidth unified network fabric and ‘wire once’ remote management.”
“The open data center concept behind the Liquid Elements product line aligns with our vision for the FocalPoint switch silicon family,” said Mike Zeile, President & COO of Fulcrum Microsystems. “With the advanced features and ultra low latency built into our silicon, we are enabling data center architects to eliminate proprietary interconnect technologies in the same way Liquid Computing is unlocking different possibilities for matching other hardware.”
