TACC Hosts 2nd Annual Summer Supercomputing Institute
June 2 application deadline: The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin today announced that it will host its second annual five-day Summer Supercomputing Institute in Austin from July 28 through August 1. The Institute will provide researchers with an intensive introduction to TACC’s computing resources. Senior TACC staff will deliver presentations and lead interactive labs focused on using TACC’s resources and technologies, including:
• High performance computing systems
• Visualization systems and advanced display environments
• Massive storage systems
• Grid computing technologies In addition, leading computational scientists will discuss their work, including examples of how they apply TACC’s resources in their research. They will also share effective methods for consulting with TACC’s user support group. On the final day of the Institute, TACC staff will assist participants in applying the techniques and technologies covered in the Institute to their own applications. There will be a number of presentations and hands-on labs:
• Accessing TACC resources and services • Reviewing the hardware and software of all TACC resources • Developing parallel programs with OpenMP and MPI • Using visualization and data analysis software and systems • Developing distributed computing applications • Analyzing and optimizing application performance • Building clusters for parallel and distributed computing and rendering • Using distributed resources with grid computing technologies The Institute is appropriate for all levels of researchers, faculty, staff and graduate students, from new users of advanced computing technologies to those who have research projects requiring powerful computing, visualization, storage, or software. Preference will be given to current TACC users, TeraGrid users, TACC industrial affiliates, and faculty, staff, and graduate students from universities and non-profit research organizations who are likely to become users. Please apply online at: its Web site. Important Dates:
• June 2, application deadline • June 9, notifications sent to applicants • June 16, payment ($150) deadline for accepted applicants For more information about the TACC Summer Supercomputing Institute, please contact Brad Armosky: barmosky@tacc.utexas.edu.
