Mitrionics' Chief Scientific Officer to Discuss Accelerators at HPC User Forum

Mitrionics, developer of the Mitrion Software Acceleration Platform and the Mitrion Virtual Processor, today announced that Stefan Möhl, Mitrionics' co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, will make a presentation to discuss different acceleration technologies, advantages, and disadvantages at the IDC HPC User Forum this April 14-16, 2008 in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Möhl's presentation titled, "What is next for accelerators? Turf war or collaboration," will discuss acceleration platforms and strategies for Green Computing and Hybrid Computing based on FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), GPGPUs (General-Purpose computation on GPUs), and multi-core CPUs. The HPC User Forum is an initiative developed by IDC (International Data Corporation) to promote the interests of HPC users in industry, government, and academia and is an extension of IDC's long-standing commitment to the global HPC community. "FPGA-accelerated computing has gained significant market momentum as major processor companies and system vendors have increased their support for FPGAs," said Stefan Möhl, co-founder and chief scientific officer of Mitrionics, Inc. "But long-term success in the acceleration industry and broader market adoption will depend on the leveraging the strengths of all the different hardware acceleration platforms, and be able to effectively utilize them together in a hybrid computing strategy, where each type of processor performs the functions best suited to its architecture."
