LSU to Host Two Events This Week for Mathematics Researchers

LSU's Center for Computation & Technology, or CCT, will host two events this week for national and international researchers in mathematics. The Workshop on Automating the Development of Scientific Computing Software will take place March 5-7, and researchers will discuss how to best automate the process of developing software for scientific simulation. Members from several research groups around the world will attend the workshop to disseminate the latest developments in this emerging research area. Speakers from 13 universities and five countries will contribute to this workshop. In conjunction with the workshop, a joint meeting of the Finite Element Circus and the Finite Element Rodeo will be held on campus March 7-8. The Finite Element Circus and the Finite Element Rodeo are two series of conferences devoted to the theory and applications of the finite element method and related areas of numerical analysis and partial differential equations. This is the second joint meeting of the two groups. The first one was held at the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. More than 70 national and international researchers will attend this meeting to present their latest work. Susanne C. Brenner, a professor with CCT and the LSU Department of Mathematics, will host both events.
