Mellanox 10 gigabit ethernet demonstrate interoperability at UNH IOL summit

Mellanox Technologies announced successful completion of interoperability testing of its ConnectX EN 10GigE NIC products with other 10 Gigabit Ethernet vendors at the recent University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab summit. The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Tech Summit was held September 24th though 28th, and created a heterogeneous data center environment capable of running applications typically used in commercial data centers. “Our Ethernet product line is being recognized by customers as a category leader, with multiple end-user installations in process,” said Dan Tuchler, Sr. Director of Product Management at Mellanox. “Interoperability with other 10 Gigabit Ethernet vendors in a trusted and neutral test environment is an important step towards industry wide deployment, which we accomplished successfully. Both InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet are rapidly growing markets – providing connectivity for an increasing share of the 8 million servers shipped this year.” Mellanox ConnectX EN products, including both fiber optic and copper dual port adapters, easily connected with a variety of switches, NICs, and test equipment, and ran a broad array of tests and applications. The Lab environment provided an effective simulation of a real data center deployment where end users prefer to avoid vendor lock-ins and would rather use products with wide, demonstrated interoperability. “We were pleased that Mellanox participated in the first Summit,” said Bob Noseworthy, technical director of the UNH-IOL. “The industry as a whole benefits when companies come together and we can facilitate a spirit of collaboration and objectivity. The result is a stronger, richer variety of connectivity solutions for the core data center and cluster environments.” The comprehensive ConnectX EN product line includes dual port Copper CX4 NICs, and single and dual port XFP based fiber optic NICs supporting SR, LR, and LRM optical standards. Both CX4 and fiber optic NICs are available now. Participating vendors commented on the maturity of the ConnectX EN products and the ease of setup, configuration, and interoperation with other products. This interoperability, in combination with excellent performance, low power consumption, a highly integrated single-chip design, and easy to use, stable software makes the ConnectX EN product line the best choice in the industry.
