HyperTransport Consortium Elects New President
30-year Industry Veteran to Join Consortium’s Executive Committee: The HyperTransport Technology Consortium, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing, promoting and licensing the industry’s lowest latency, highest bandwidth interconnect technology, today announced the election of Mike Uhler, vice president of Accelerated Computing for AMD and former chief technology officer (CTO) of MIPS, as president of the Consortium.
“We are privileged to have such an experienced technology leader as part of our executive team,” said Mario Cavalli, general manager of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium. “Mike’s extensive expertise in advanced processor design and system architectures will be critical to the Consortium as we continue to advance the capability and reach of our technology. Furthermore, Mike’s deep understanding of the high-performance computing market makes him the ideal candidate to help the Consortium capitalize on growth opportunities in this quickly expanding industry segment.”

As a named inventor on 36 patents in computer architecture and design, Uhler has extensive experience developing advanced chip architectures and software for customers targeting high-performance markets. In his current role with AMD, he is responsible for driving future technological innovation, including the implementation of interconnect technology in next-generation designs. Previously as CTO of MIPS, Uhler worked directly with a variety of high-profile Consortium members, helping them to ease the integration of multiple IP cores into sophisticated IC designs. Prior to his role as CTO, he held various architecture and engineering responsibilities at MIPS. Uhler was also director of engineering at Silicon Graphics Inc.’s MIPS Group, and a senior consulting engineer at Digital Equipment Corp. Uhler holds a master’s degree in computer science and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona.
