Clemson names new CIO

Clemson University named a new permanent chief information office and vice provost for computing and information technology, the school announced yesterday. James R. Bottum will take over in those positions effective July 17. Bottum comes to Clemson from Purdue University, where he had served as first vice president for information technology and chief information officer for five years. Clemson Provost Dori Helms said Bottum will lead the school's efforts to focus on high performance computing and communication and praised his experience in research computing. "We look forward to working with him to build a robust technology infrastructure for Clemson's faculty, staff and students," Helms said. Bottum takes over for acting CIO David Bullard. No Clemson officials were available to say Wednesday afternoon what Bullard's next step would be.
