City of Terrell, Texas, Adopts Autodesk Public Works Solution

Autodesk Inc. today announced that the City of Terrell, Texas, has successfully implemented the Autodesk Public Works Solution and has integrated it with Oracle Database 10g. This powerful combination of Autodesk, a Certified Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork and Oracle technology enables city engineers to create, manage, and share location and structural data in a single, open-standards-based environment. The City of Terrell's Engineering Department is also able to better collaborate with other city departments in developing and maintaining CAD engineering and GIS data for water and sewer lines. By integrating and centralizing this spatial information and making it more widely accessible, the city expects to make more informed, efficient, and cost-effective decisions about public infrastructure. "We see the Autodesk Public Works Solution as a key tool to providing current, accurate, and relevant data to our citizens and contractors and to integrating our operations effectively with all departments within the City of Terrell," said Steve Rogers, city engineer for the City of Terrell. "We are long-time Autodesk customers, and the public works solution allows us to extend our existing investment to include Oracle Database 10g, and ultimately, open up facilities and other valuable data to more people, both inside and outside of the organization." The City of Terrell frequently needed to share information that lived within the Engineering Department with other departments. Mapping technicians spent time pulling information in response to requests from other departments, which was time-consuming and kept them away from their key responsibilities. Now, with Autodesk's Public Works Solution, this information will become centralized and more accessible, as Terrell city engineers gain powerful Oracle Database 10g technology for grid computing to enhance Autodesk Map 3D software for precision 2D and 3D map creation and GIS analysis. "Our complementary technological strengths, our shared commitment to helping customers make the most of their data, and Autodesk's strong presence among mid-size government and public works customers makes this a particularly strategic partnership for Oracle," said Bronwyn Hastings, Vice President, Worldwide Alliances and Channels, Oracle Corp. "Customers worldwide can take advantage of rich visualization, analysis and editing capabilities from Autodesk and a reliable, scalable, secure database from Oracle." "Autodesk and Oracle understand that local government and public agencies can't afford the complex system customizations often required to access infrastructure and location data that's locked inside proprietary systems," said Chris Bradshaw, vice president of Autodesk's Infrastructure Solutions Division. "Oracle is a vital component of Autodesk's simple-to-use, affordable solution that creates an open environment for cities such as Terrell, Texas, to leverage their existing investments in all types of data - without struggling to import and export it from multiple systems."
