Clemson to participate in first South Carolina presence at SC07

Clemson University will participate in South Carolina's first presence at SC07, the 19-year-old International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, Nov. 10-16 in Reno, Nev. Clemson initiated and has led the development of the South Carolina Computing Consortium, or SC3, a recently formed coalition of five major research institutions in the state that includes the University of South Carolina, the Medical University of South Carolina, Hollings Marine Laboratory and Savannah River National Laboratory. The consortium was developed to enable and advance cyberinfrastructure-related research, education and economic development in South Carolina. "SC07 is the premier international conference in these fields," said Jim Bottum, vice provost for computing and information technology and chief information officer at Clemson. "Clemson's participation in this event highlights the strides being taken at the university and in the state to build and strengthen its research infrastructure." The conference will have research presentations that show the applicative benefits of investments in cyberinfrastructure. SC3 will have a research exhibit presence at the conference that will highlight the computational research efforts of the major research institutions in South Carolina. Presentations and information in the exhibit are organized around the four pillars of cyberinfrastructure as defined by the National Science Foundation: high-performance computing and communication, virtual organizations, data analysis and learning. Computational genomics, materials research, sensor networks, Clemson's Condor-based campus grid and the Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films will be among the projects and programs highlighted at the exhibit. Participation in SC07 raises the level of national awareness of the state's growing computational research enterprise. More than 300 exhibitors will participate and more than 8,000 are expected to attend. Information on Clemson Computing and Information Technology (CCIT) can be found at http://ccit.clemson.edu/.
