ISC '07 Registration Opens March 1

Online advance registration for the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC ’07) opens March 1, offering attendees a reduced rate if they register by Saturday, May 26. The conference, the largest HPC event in Europe, will be held June 26-29 in Dresden under the theme “Exploring the Frontiers of Supercomputing.” A registration form will be available beginning March 1 at its Web site. ISC ’07 offers three days of intensive technical sessions beginning Wednesday, June 27. In addition, two pre-conference programs—Automotive Day and Scientific Day—are scheduled for Tuesday, June 26. Automotive Day will focus on the role of high performance computing in a wide range of automotive production processes, including computer-aided vehicle design, crash simulation, component fatigue analysis and computational fluid dynamics analysis. Scientific Day will provide an open forum for researchers in academia, industry, and government to present and discuss issues, directions, and results that will shape the future of HPC and networking. Papers will be presented on a wide range of topics and awards will be presented to the two best scientific papers. “The technical program for this year’s conference includes exceptional speakers who will address a many important issues, including the role of HPC in climate change research, the aerospace industry, financial risk management and more,” said Conference Chairman Prof. Hans Werner Meuer of the University of Mannheim. “Automotive Day and Scientific Day will make the overall conference experience even richer for our participants. We look forward to coming back to Dresden and to holding a conference that is even more successful than last year’s.” In 2006, the conference moved to the state-of-the-art Congress Center in Dresden and also saw an increase in attendance of more than 70 percent and an increase in exhibitors of about 60 percent. This year, as many as 90 exhibitors and close to 1,000 technical program participants are expected to attend ISC ’07. This year’s technical program will focus on the following key topics: processor and chip innovations; HPC for automotive engineering and computational fluid dynamics; high performance networking; operating systems and algorithms for petaflops computers; and financial applications and HPC. Below are some of the highlights of the program. --Burton J. Smith, Microsoft Technical Fellow and former chief scientist at Cray, will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, June 27. Smith will speak on “Reinventing Computing.” --Tsugio Makimoto, of Techno Visions Consulting and formerly senior executive vice president at Sony, will present a second keynote on the impacts of chip innovations on computing power. His talk will be Thursday, June 28. --Presentations on HPC in computational fluid dynamics will include a discussion of the role of HPC in climate change and air quality forecasting systems, presented by Jose-Maria Baldasano of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. --Thomas Sterling, a professor of computer science at Louisiana State University, faculty associate at the California Institute of Technology and distinguished visiting scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will discuss multicore technology and its impact on Moore’s Law. The conference program is available online at its Web site. All conference proceedings are conducted in English.
