NCSA participates in AAAS annual meeting

NCSA's expertise in scientific visualization and other projects and people will be showcased at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in San Francisco (Feb. 15-19). The National Science Foundation booth will feature high-resolution stereo animations of scientific simulation data produced by NCSA's Advanced Visualization Lab. Phenomena illustrated by the visualizations include: the flow of water in Monterey Bay, a powerful F3 tornado, a rotating black hole, a star going supernova, and the formation of the Milky Way. The NSF booth will also feature a presentation by NCSA collaborator Thanh Truong on CSE-Online (a cyberinfrastructure for education in computational science). On Friday, Feb. 16, AVL leader Donna Cox will participate in a panel discussion called "Chew on This: A Trillion Bytes for All Science and Engineering." The presentation will describe the capabilities provided by the TeraGrid and will also include TeraGrid Director Charlie Catlett and Phil Maechling from the Southern California Earthquake Center.
