Linux Networx Announces Performance Tuned Supercomputing

Turnkey Systems Deliver Immediate Productivity for Leading Supercomputing Applications: Linux Networx, The Linux Supercomputing Company, today announced the next member of the LS Series, Performance Tuned (LS-P) Linux Supersystems. The LS-P Series of turnkey, production-ready systems delivers industry-leading application throughput and significant reductions in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for leading product design applications. LS-P systems are performance tuned for computational fluid dynamics (CFD), crash/impact analysis and structural analysis applications. Visualization software from CEI is supported as a tuned, integrated application on all systems. Linux Networx LS-P Supersystems eliminate the complexity associated with high-performance Linux clusters. They are delivered as state-of-the-art supercomputing systems that are production-ready within days of delivery. As turnkey systems, the LS-P family eliminates the expected customer time and expense associated with installing, integrating and tuning application software, as well as hardware and system software integration and tuning. Performance tuned by Linux Networx and leading supercomputing partners, the LS-P family delivers new levels of application performance and system throughput, while accelerating time-to-productivity. In customer environments, the systems have demonstrated a 20+ percent reduction in TCO and improved application throughput up to a factor of 10. "We don't have the resources in-house to spend a lot of time designing, tuning and testing a system," said Andres Garzon, research engineer, Aerion Corp. "Linux Networx was able to quickly design and tune the system for us so that we could begin running our CFD codes almost from the day the system was delivered." "We've leveraged years of Linux supercomputing experience to drive performance tuned application acceleration, coupled with system reliability and manageability in the LS-P Series," said Robert (Bo) Ewald, CEO of Linux Networx. "Finally, customers can take advantage of production-ready supercomputing at Linux price-points." LS-P hardware platforms integrate best-of-breed supercomputing architectures, leveraging proven compute, storage and visualization components. Each hardware platform is configured to power the specific performance demands of individual supercomputing applications. A tightly integrated suite of performance tuned system software enhances system throughput and utilization. The system software stack is specifically tuned by Linux Networx experts to drive optimum performance for select industry and custom applications. Clusterworx systems management is included with each LS-P, driving increased system utilization and availability while reducing management complexity and cost. "Linux Networx' initiative to use Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors in some of its performance tuned, production-ready, systems that eliminate the complexity of traditional Linux clusters provides enhanced value to supercomputing users," said Boyd Davis, general manager, Server Platform Group Marketing, Intel. "The combination of our Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors with Linux Networx' tuned software stack is powering new levels of performance for FEA and impact/crash analysis." Systems tuned for CFD, crash/impact analysis and structural analysis will be available in the first quarter of 2007. LS-P systems performance tuned for ABAQUS, ANSYS Standard and LS-Dyna are available initially on platforms featuring Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors. These systems have shown up to 40% faster performance compared to industry average benchmarks. LS-P systems performance tuned for Star-CD are available on platforms featuring Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors. These systems have shown up to 36% faster performance compared to industry average benchmarks. LS-P systems for FLUENT, Metacomp Technologies and other industry applications will be available in the first half of 2007. Each system will be delivered production-ready in three baseline configurations designed for specific workloads and application requirements. The LS-P Dynamo 8 is designed for a focused user and workload environment. The Workhorse 64 is a balanced system designed to power multi-application environments driving diverse workload profiles. The Powerhouse 128 powers the most complex, large-scale customer models and applications. Multiple Powerhouse 128 systems can be integrated together to deliver ultimate performance for the largest computational requirements.
