Itanium Solutions Alliance Announces First Itanium Solutions Summit
Meeting Held in Conjunction with Fall Intel Developer Forum -- With the launch of the next generation, Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 processor 9000 series, code-named Montecito, the Itanium Solutions Alliance today announced the first Itanium Solutions Summit, to be held in San Francisco on September 25, 2006. The event will be held in the Moscone West center in conjunction with the fall Intel Developer Forum, and will provide a forum for the more than 70 Alliance member companies to learn more about the latest Intel Itanium 2 processor developments while extending their business relationships with other Itanium 2-based solution providers. The Itanium Solutions Summit marks the one year anniversary of the formation of the Itanium Solutions Alliance, and will provide an opportunity for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to meet with Alliance Founding Sponsor and Charter Member companies in an effort to extend partnerships and drive the adoption and ongoing development of Itanium 2-based solutions. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for non-member companies to join the Alliance and receive support in porting their applications to Itanium 2-based solutions.
“Itanium 2-based solutions continue to gain industry momentum as a RISC replacement through increased application numbers, sales of Itanium 2-based servers and ongoing commitment from Itanium Solutions Alliance member companies,” said Tony Devarco, SGI senior manager, global technology partnerships. “This meeting is an opportunity for ISVs to establish the relationships that will help them to maximize their benefits of supporting Itanium 2-based solutions.” According to IDC, sales of Itanium-based systems grew 41.8% year over year generating $640 million in revenue for the Q1 2006 and now represents 11.2% of all non-x86 server revenue. Additionally, Itanium 2-based applications have nearly doubled in number since the launch of the Itanium Solutions Alliance; currently there are over 8000 applications ported to Itanium 2-based solutions. “With the arrival of the next generation, Dual-Core Itanium 2 processor, we can expand the breadth and depth of our Itanium 2-based solutions to better help customers optimize application performance and achieve business transformation,” said Guy Churchward, general manager of the Java Runtime Products Group at BEA Systems, Inc. “The Itanium Solutions Summit offers a valuable forum for helping build business relationships, as well as extending the reach of Itanium-based solutions.” Membership to the Alliance is open to any enterprise and technical software supplier looking to optimize applications for Itanium 2-based platforms, or enterprise and technical computing providers looking to network with other leaders in the delivery of mission-critical computing solutions.
