ISC Award Winners
SPECIAL COVERAGE FROM ISC2006 ISC Awards honor scientists working on projects addressing the applicability of High Performance Computing to real life problems in an innovative way. The focus for ISC2006 is on “life sciences” and “application scalability on very large systems”. This year's ISC award is sponsored by HP and Intel. Prizes will include research visits to the sponsors' lab facilities and additional benefits. The presentation of the two ISC Award Winners will take place during the Award Session on Thursday, June 29, 2006. The winners will present their work in corresponding sessions on Thursday and Friday. The recipients of the 2006 ISC Awards are: * Prof. Dr. Ulrich Ruede and team (Ben Bergen, Frank Hülsemann and Gerhard Wellein) for 'Solving Finite Element Systems with 17 Billion unknowns at sustained Teraflops performance'. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Ruede currently holds the chair for simulation at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg where he is a professor in the department of computer science. His research interests are in numerical algorithms, computational science and engineering, and high end supercomputing. * Prof. Peter Coveney and team (Shantenu Jha and Matt Harvey) for 'Simulated Pore Interactive Computing Environment (SPICE): Using Federated Grids for 'Grand Challenge' Biomolecular' Prof. Peter John Coveney holds a Chair in Physical Chemistry and is Director of the Centre for Computational Science (CCS) within the Department of Chemistry at UCL; he is also co-Director of the UCL e-Science Centre of Excellence. We would like to congratulate the winners.
