SPECIAL COVERAGE FROM ISC2006OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution To Be Fully Interoperable with Voltaire InfiniBand Solutions -- Voltaire, the worldwide leader in grid backbone solutions, today announced that the company’s full product line of InfiniBand-based hardware and software solutions will be fully compliant to, and interoperate with the recently announced OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) version 1.0. In addition, Voltaire reaffirmed its continued commitment to the OpenFabrics Alliance. “As project leader of the Path Forward project, Voltaire has been a key contributor to OpenFabrics (formerly OpenIB) since its inception,” said Asaf Somekh, vice president, strategic alliances at Voltaire. “We believe this is a critical step in ensuring that both Red Hat and Novell/SuSE include production-level InfiniBand software in their upcoming releases.” Voltaire is among the founding members of the OpenFabrics Alliance which includes companies and end user organizations such as Oracle, Intel, Network Appliance, Mellanox and the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE). Following the formation of the Alliance, the DoE selected Voltaire to lead a strategic open source project that would provide the core development of the OpenFabrics stack. The success of the project led to the inclusion of OpenFabrics drivers in the Linux kernel in early 2005. Voltaire is working with its channel partners to integrate the new stack with their cluster and grid solutions. Voltaire OEMs and reseller partners include IBM, HP, NEC, SGI and Sun.
