International scientists visit NCSA

NCSA will host several scientists from around the world who will visit the center to explore common research interests and opportunities for collaboration. Luiz Bevilacqua, senior researcher at Brazil's National Laboratory for Scientific Computation, will visit NCSA April 17-21. Bevilacqua is the scientific chairman for the GEOMA ecological research project. During his visit, the potential to form collaborations between GEOMA and NCSA environmental science and engineering projects will be explored. Three senior executives from Singapore's Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) will visit NCSA on Wednesday, April 19: Raj Thampuran, acting IHPC executive director and director of the Science and Engineering Research Council; Chai Chin Loon, deputy director (compute resources) at IHPC; and Daniel Lau, senior officer of the Science and Engineering Research Council. They will learn more about how NCSA provides support for the researchers who use cyber-resources, among other topics. Both the National Laboratory for Scientific Computation and the Institute of High Performance Computing are NCSA International Affiliates. The affiliates program promotes productive relationships with organizations outside the United States that share NCSA's interests in high-performance computing, networking, storage, visualization, and data analysis. The program provides opportunities for sharing information, joint initiatives, and staff exchanges. NCSA currently has affiliates in Australia, Brazil, China, Europe, India, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, and Taiwan.
