NCSA Position Available: Visiting Training Specialist

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Visiting Training Specialist position available. The primary function of this position is to collaborate with members of the NMPDR research team to produce training materials and conduct outreach to the target community to enable effective use of the NMPDR. NCSA leads the NMPDR's outreach and training activities to aid these experimental researchers. The National Microbial Pathogen Data Resource Center (NMPDR) is an effort funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Collaborating on this project are researchers from the University of Chicago, the Fellowship for Interpretation of Genomes (FIG), Argonne National Laboratory, and NCSA. NMPDR will provide infectious disease researchers with an integrated web-based database resource containing organism-related data necessary for advanced study and applications. This resource will help biomedical scientists to accelerate their research into the biology and evolution of deadly microorganisms. Qualifications: Masters degree required [Ph.D. preferred] in microbiology, biochemistry or other life sciences. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA efforts). Demonstrated experience and success in developing training materials and conducting training with significant technical content on topics related to microbiology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Applied knowledge of bioinformatics and metabolism. This is an academic professional position at NCSA and is a 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits.
