Tumbleweed Unveils New 64-bit High-performance Hardware Platform

Tumbleweed Communications, a leading provider of email security, managed file transfer, and identity validation appliance and software products, today unveiled a new high performance hardware platform built around AMD's 64-bit Opteron CPU. These new appliances are extremely fast, scalable and easy to install, and will be used as a common platform for all Tumbleweed appliance products. The appeal of appliances continues as organizations seek to simplify deployment, and assure the security of mission-critical, Internet-facing devices. As processing and networking demands have dramatically increased, the need for high performance devices is more important than ever. Tumbleweed's new hardware appliances provide excellent performance with throughput of up to half a million email messages per hour, making them ideally suited for the computationally intensive functions of email management and security, file transfer management and security, and real-time identity validation. Tumbleweed's new hardware platform includes multiple appliance form-factors. The new 3500 Series appliances feature a 1U chassis, with a 1.8 Ghz Opteron CPU. The 5500 Series appliances include dual 2.0 Ghz Opteron CPUs and provide fault tolerance with redundant, hot-swappable disk drives and power supplies. Both 1U and 2U models feature a unique front panel LCD and controls which enable rapid network configuration, status information, and appliance reset with no external cabling or monitors, greatly simplifying the deployment process. In addition, Tumbleweed's products feature centralized management of multiple appliances from a single administrative interface, providing scalability for large or distributed organizations. "With our latest appliance hardware, we can support the information security needs of companies at every level of scale and expertise -- from small to medium enterprises all the way up to distributed global enterprises," said Joseph Fisher, VP of Marketing at Tumbleweed. "Simple deployment, easy maintenance, and a common platform will give our customers the highest level of performance and support across our appliance products." New 64-bit appliance hardware is available in the following products: -- MailGate Appliance: State of the art inbound and outbound email security; network edge defense, antivirus, antispam, content filtering, policy management, encryption -- MailGate Edge: A secure email relay appliance that delivers network-based email defense against Directory Harvest (DHA) and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks -- MailGate Secure Messenger: A policy-based, secure message delivery product that inspects incoming and outgoing mail and dynamically applies user-defined encryption and routing preferences -- Tumbleweed Secure Transport: Enterprise file transfer management, automation, and security -- Tumbleweed Valicert Validation Authority: Real-time identity validation for PKI
